Double Mirrors Book Outline

Project Double Mirrors consists of the following:

1. A multimedia CD ROM - 400 images, animation, video, electronic soundtrack, and interactive book.
2. DoubleMirrors.com - excerpts from the book, soundtrack in real audio, image gallery, and a RealVideo streaming version of the CD ROM in slide show format.
3. a 400 page book - an account of the years that led to the birth of Dylan, Son of Waves, a full Dolphin/Jedi, organized chronologically. Philosophical writing about the nature of our humanity, spirituality, and God is interwoven among personal anecdotes of a neurotic Don Quixote living in manhattan with a vision quest.
The metaphysical quest revolves around an idea referred to as the theory of Double Mirrors, but includes thoughts on the nature of Judaism both Old and New, and most recently, an examination of the birth of the digital soul.

DOUBLE MIRRORS

1. intro- 15 pages

Dylan introduces himself, his vision quest, his theory of the Double Mirrors, which could quite possible be the meaning of life, and the frustration of nevertheless being stuck as a neurotic Old Jew, a situation he dreams of transcending with his search for the Ethiopian Woman.

2. WITS- 20 pages

My account, written in 1994, of leaving home at 13 to live in a yeshiva at 3288 North Lake Drive, Milwaukee, WI.

3. YU - 20 pages

After dropping out of high school at the age of 16, I ended up in NYC, at Yeshiva University where I spent most of my time practicing Tae Kwon Do with a 7nth degree black belt on 59th st, and enjoying the strip bars of times square. The year comes to an end with me participating in a Jewish Defense Organization rally at Columbia University (not having any idea that I would eventually be going to school there).

4. HU- 10 pages

I decide to spend a year in Jerusalem, at the Hebrew University on Mount Scopus. This I refer to as the year of the vision quest, for it is then, at 18, that I met the Ethiopian Woman, and discovered Double Mirrors.
As I left the world of New Jew fantasy, I promised to myself I would return soon, after I express Double Mirrors and my new vision of New Jew. And what better place to do this, I thought, than where it needed to heard most: at Columbia University, the capitol of Old Jew intellectualism, and dead dogma, NYC.
I was the only transfer student accepted without a high school diploma. But on the spiritual level everything made sense. It was the shadows of Plato's cave that I had to confront now.

5. Columbia 1st year - 30 pages (up to 100)

a. Double Mirrors/philosophy -

Philosophical writing is accompanied by my account of first articulating the Double Mirrors theory in Lit. Hum class. I was to spend the rest of my college experience on this idea, battling demons in the visual arts department.

b. Columbia Spectator/limelight/Columbia life (journal) -

- I worked as an investigative reporter and later associate editor for the Columbia Daily Spectator. This section is full of anecdotes, some funny, some sad, as well as written self- portraits "I feel like a dolphin in a swimming pool."

6. Summer of 94 - Isis, and the Return to the Promised Land
72 pages (up to page 172)

a. Sarah - 35 pages : while contemplating the infinite regression of the parallel mirrors on the walls of a times square strip club named Runway 69, I was only occasionally distracted by the nipples of Sarah, the Cat Woman dancer who inspired me to start my Project Double Mirrors.

b. Israel-- 37 pages Dylan, Son of Waves returns to Israel, and is infinitely more comforted by the waves off of Tel Aviv than by the combination of Prozac and a very dangerous NYC stripper

7. Columbia 2nd year (95) ('95)- The year of Demons 145 pages (up to page 317)

a. journal -
- I return to Columbia and end up experimenting with various drugs, a demon I battle for the next year.
- The good news is that I acquire a Power Mac 8100, with 7 gigabytes, a machine I put use for the Double Mirrors communication effort. As I become increasingly involved with the cyber-world, as well as chemical influences on my body, I am forced to grapple with the cyborg condition we are all slowly beginning to face. Just as my over-dose of humanity/ sensitivity led me to contemplate the Double Mirrors of our minds and origins of our spirituality, I was now dealing with the issue of the machine on an equally metaphysical level.
b. Conflict with Darth Vader -
- My father, a professor of Philosophy , made attempts to "steal" Double Mirrors, and came very close to publishing a plagiarized version, until I convinced him to avoid the "dark path."
- I am fairly certain this portion should be left out due to family sensitivities. Nevertheless a powerful story.
c. Extended Summary of Double Mirrors- 20 pages
- This theory is the substance of the entire work. Publishing this summary alone, along with my photographs and multimedia CD ROM, would accomplish my goals. However, the autobiographical element of this work is intended to compliment the central metaphor of the Double Mirrors, as well as drive home the point that personal truth is only discovered through life experience. My personal quest for self knowledge is therefore inseparable from the universal meta-truths I am seeking.

8. Summer of '95 - 66 pages (up to page 383)

I spend the last $800 in my bank account on a round trip ticket to Israel, where I spend 3 months swimming with Dolphins in Eilat, photographing these spiritual companions underwater, as well as Israelis and sunsets all over the country, as I attempt to "expose the beauty of the New Jew."

9. Columbia 3rd year- 52 pages (up to page 435)
a. journal:

I discover Columbia University is where the early research on building the atom bomb began. And that the heart of this research was carried out in the very building where I was taking my art and electronic music classes- Prentis Hall, at 125th st. I move down to 14th st and 1st, inspired by Allan Ginsberg and other Columbia drop outs. I decide to graduate, but to keep a distance, quitting my job at the spectator, and spending all my time swimming and working on a manhattan project of my own: CD ROM Project Double Mirrors.

Anecdotes :
-Telling Professor Olick in the sociology department that people like him are going to be responsible for the annihilation of our species. he replies " What is wrong with the annihilation of our species?"
- sitting through several classes of "Idea of God" and then telling the professor that I have discovered the answer. His look of confusion let me know I should drop the course.
Only 2 professors at Columbia were supportive of my effort to communicate Double Mirrors. Which prompted me to write in a letter before the summary I wrote for Contemporary Civilization:
"If a search for truth is out of place in this institution, than its promise of providing an education is a crock of shit. The Emperor you call Columbia is buck naked."

10. Summer of '96 - Aliyah 16 pages ( up to page 451)

The last of 3 consecutive trips to Israel, during which most of the photography on the CD ROM was taken. My dream was to move to Israel after publishing this project, and marry The Ethiopian Woman known as Suntayahu.
Nov. 1, 1996, DoubleMirrors.com was born. One day before my move to Israel, on Dec 31, 1996, I mailed the project to a single agent, who turned out to be a crook.
January 1, 1997 I moved to Jerusalem, Israel, where I continue my effort to express Double Mirrors, and with God's help, find and marry the Ethiopian Woman (her name is Suntayahu).

The DoubleMirrors.com web site provides an appropriate outlet for this never ending project. It is updated continuously, and is slowly creating a momentum/network that is building off itself. This is the nature of any project that harnesses the power of the Infinite.
Most recently, the project has been exploring ideas on how to save the world by uniting free cyber-spirits (Dolphins) with hackers (Jedi).
Still, my dream is to publish this work in book form.
